The fitness sector’s pivot to active wellbeing is being discussed in a new weekly podcast, called The Conveners, and hosted by chair of GM Active and director of Miova, Andy King with industry veteran, John Oxley, as a guest presenter.

As leisure, health and social care converge, the duo will invite guests to discuss examples of how these sectors are working together across the UK and the ways in which the leisure sector can further contribute to improving the health of the nation and reducing health inequalities.

King, who led the UK’s first integrated care service for prehab and rehab of cancer patients – Prehab4Cancer – will discuss this and the potential for similar initiatives.

"Our aim is to shine a light on some of the great work already underway in the sport, leisure and physical activity sector to support health and social care, while also amplifying voices from beyond our immediate sphere," says King.

"We believe in the power of collaboration to create a 'national wellness service' that not only improves population health but also tackles inequalities head-on. By inviting guests from diverse backgrounds, we aim to foster a culture of innovation that propels us towards a healthier, more equitable future."

King has teamed up with Future Fit who will sponsor the podcast. Chief education and partnerships office at Future Fit, Elaine Briggs, says: “The Conveners podcast embodies the spirit of collaboration and innovation in tackling pressing health challenges. We hope that it will start conversations around redefining wellness and help address imbalance directly”.

The pivot to wellbeing was discussed in issue 2 of HCM, with King among the line-up of contributors

The Conveners will kick off on Tuesday 23 April at 10.00am GMT, with new episodes each week.

Guests on the programme will include Mark Tweedie, Ken Masser, Nuffield's Davina Deniszczyc and TV doctor, Dr Hussain Al Zubaidi.

You can sign in on Spotify here.

The Convenors will also be on Apple Podcasts here and YouTube here.

Mark Tweedie will be featured in the upcoming issue of HCM. Sign up at www.HCMMag.com/signup to receive your complimentary edition.
