Tender Opportunity with Belfast Zoo
Exploring interest from specialist organisations in the operation, management and development of Belfast Zoo
Belfast, Northern Ireland

Belfast City Council is carrying out a market engagement to seek views and innovative solutions for the future operation, management and development of Belfast Zoo – a world-class zoo facility, and the only one of its kind in Northern Ireland.

We are looking for an arrangement that might include, but is not limited to:

-The granting of a long-term lease or license on the existing land
-The provision of capital for investment – providing there is a commensurate return for that investment in the form of reduced subsidy
-A continuing Council subsidy – albeit substantially reduced
-A Joint Venture or Private Sector scheme – for Finance, Development and/or Operations, either on the existing site or an alternative site in the wider Belfast area
-The integration of a Zoo based attraction alongside other compatible developments
-Franchising arrangements – for Zoo based attraction
-Joint management – with expert operators with a good track record of managing similar attractions

Whilst we are seeking a financially secure future for the zoo, we must emphasise that the welfare of the animals is of paramount importance, and any solution must satisfy the requirements of the Zoo Licensing Act and the membership standards of the British and Irish Associations of Zoos and Aquaria (BIAZA).

We have developed a detailed business opportunity prospectus and supplementary questionnaire, and the prospectus provides further information about the opportunity, including financial and performance information.

The prospectus also sets out a full list of our requirements, we ask that all interested parties complete and return a copy of the questionnaire.

The Council are not committed to progressing with any of the solutions.

Copies of the prospectus and questionnaire can be requested via email at market.engagement@v4services.com, with questionnaires to be returned no later than Friday 16th March.
