Latest research shows Britons have spent more than £1.5m on health and fitness during 2001. The research, conducted by Mintel, found revenue from membership fees and other sources such as bars and health and beauty treatments, has more than doubled in the last five years. Other positive findings for the industry show almost a fifth of Britons use of health and fitness clubs, and the number of potential users has risen from one in five in 1999 to over a third of consumers. But despite strong demand, almost half of all consumers think memberships are overpriced.
