The Somerset House Ice Rink looks set to become as much a part of London's Christmas and New Year festivities as Regent Street's lights and the Trafalgar Square celebrations. After its successful launch last year, the stunning courtyard of Somerset House will be transformed into an even bigger open air ice rink capable of accommodating up to 2,000 people a day. Another improvement this year is the introduction of an advanced booking service with group bookings available for children's parties, skating lessons and ice guides to accompany inexperienced skaters. The ice rink is sponsored by the Wallpaper Group and supported by the R&S Cohen Foundation, with ices skates donated by Bauer Nike Hockey. We're determined to make the Somerset House Ice Rink a permanent part of the city's Christmas and New Year celebrations, said Sir Timothy Sainsbury, chairman of Somerset House.
