Some breakfast bars are bad for children's teeth and contain high levels of sugar and fat, a nutritional study by the Food Commission has found. A total of 18 bars were tested by the Commission; all were high in fat, sugars or both. The new breakfast substitute products are designed to be eaten on the move and are heavily marketed for school lunchboxes. The Commission's report, published this week in Food Magazine said: Replacing breakfast with a 'breakfast bar' could do your health no good.
